Dotty Gluten Free Cookie Bites
I’ve seen the Byron Bay Dotty cookie bites so many times on the shelves when doing my weekly round up of specials. But I had never bought them until recently.
In fact, they weren’t even on special when I got them!
My husband works from home which means he misses out on the fun snacks in the office. Every fortnight or so I try to find a new snack for us to try so he’s got a treat ready for some WFH motivation.
About Byron Bay Cookies
Gosh, when did Byron Bay Cookies start up? I remember many many (20?) years ago they exploded in popularity. You’d see them in every cafe you went to, these huge luxurious biscuits.
I think it was a few years before gluten free versions of their famous cookies came out. But they kept progressing and I even received a Byron Bay gluten free cookie (along with everyone else) on a Qantas flight years ago. It was the white choc macadamia. 👌
Safe to say, they are here to stay and that is great for us gluten free folks and coeliacs.
Byron Bay Cookies actually have a pretty massive gluten free range. They’ve got a separate section in their store and there’s loads of options. Maple pecan sounds delicious but I’m keen to try sticky date with ginger!
The taste
My first impression, they really don’t look like the packet, especially one particularly hideous one 😂.
The texture is really different to what I expected. I thought it would be crumbly powdery like a shortbread.
It still breaks up when you bite in but the texture is different. The texture is somehow like firm cake, not like a hard biscuit, so I guess in that way it’s like a cookie texture?
It’s not a particularly sweet biscuit which is actually nice. Overly sweet can be a bit gross, but I guess also it’s not very buttery either?
It does contain butter, which is nice since most gluten free products are also dairy free, egg free, yeast free, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the inclusiveness and many of us have multiple dietary needs. However something like a cookie (or pastry) can be somewhat limited without dairy.
The chocolate inside is tasty and the token smartie on top is a cute addition. It would have looked better if they had survived baking / transit.

The verdict
The thing I love about cookies over biscuits is the chewy texture. This just about works in the Dotty gluten free cookie bites.
Overall it’s a nice cookie but there’s not many in the packet and yes, it’s a little pricey.
My husband said that overall he likes them and that there’s a good amount of chocolate. He did point out one very ugly one was still edible.
Where to buy gluten free Dotty mini cookies
I bought this pack from Woolworths, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them at Coles. When I bought them they were in the ‘health food’ aisle.
Having said that, around November 2024, Woolworths shifted a lot of gluten free products around, so maybe check the biscuit section too.
You can also buy them directly from Byron Bay and I’ve seen a mega version for sale on Happy Tummies.
