Crumble Charms raspberry love wheel

Crumble Charms raspberry love wheel

So continues my quest to find a gluten free Wagon Wheel in Australia, this time I’m checking out Crumble Charms, a range of gluten free and vegan biscuits that you can purchase from independent stores and online.

I don’t know about you, but if you grew up in Australia like I did and you weren’t gluten free in your childhood chances are you ate more than a few Wagon Wheels.

Wagon Wheels aren’t really something I crave or need to eat, but I like the idea of being able to have one occasionally. I think there’s a lot of joy in the nostalgia tied to food, often reliving that moment or memory tastes better than the food you’re actually eating.

About Crumble Charms

Crumble Charms is an iteration of an Australian company from Ukrainian/Russian founder Anastasia. What started as a small kitchen business supplying to cafes around Sydney grew and became it’s own brand of products distributed nationally.

The current lines from Crumble Charms are focussed on cookies, wheel biscuits and chocolates.

The whole range is vegan, most of the range is labelled gluten free – however it is not tested gluten free. There’s one product, raspberry ripe bar, that has a may contain for gluten attributed to supplier facilities.

There are two biscuits in their wheels range that have a Wagon Wheel vibe, that is, they have marshmallow. There’s the raspberry love wheel which I’m reviewing and there’s also an orange chocolate version. Oh wait, I just went to link to it and while the orange love wheel looks like it’s got marshmallow it’s actually a cream.

Ok, just one gluten free Wagon Wheel type thing!

The taste

You can see from the photo above that it’s quite a pretty biscuit – you’d hope so as they retail for $6.95. It’s got a smooth chocolate coating and a little bit of freeze-dried raspberry on top.

Biting into the biscuit the marshmallow is dense and chewy, it sits nicely with the very strong raspberry jam. There’s so much jam in it that it bursts out the side when you bite in – like how hot jam donuts do.

When you get a mouthful of jam and marshmallow together it’s quite lovely.

While dairy free chocolate isn’t my favourite, as I eat it all together it’s not bothering me. The biscuit structure is a bit of a nuisance, it’s super crumbly, more than you’d expect from a GF biscuit in 2025.

The verdict

So far, this is the best gluten free Wagon Wheel alternative I’ve come across, the other being the disastrous one from Health Lab. It’s still not totally like a Wagon Wheel but the vibe is there.

I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to have one of these again. The jam is just way too intense. Personally I’d prefer the raspberry jam smeared across the whole biscuit rather than dolloped in one position.

I want to get a bit of jam in every bite, rather than what is effectively a teaspoon of jam in one hit – it isn’t all that pleasant.

But hey! If you’re a sugar fiend like my husband you’ll love it. He ate the other half and was quite happy with it, though he wasn’t keen on how crumbly the biscuit was. But I guess that’s in the name?
