Gluten free chips have changed at Aldi

Posted: March 11, 2025 Updated: March 12, 2025

You’re not imagining it, gluten free frozen chips at Aldi have changed. The changed started around December 2024. Posts were coming up frequently on Facebook which prompted me to do some checks in January and February.

Previously there were plenty of gluten free frozen chip options at Aldi ranging from the standard, sweet potato and even wedges.

Unfortunately the wedges, the only gluten free wedges on the market, were the first to go. If there’s still old stock at your local then make sure you know the differences.

If you’re unfamiliar with my website, I’ll let you know now I have a range of gluten free shopping guides including one with gluten free chip options.

Aldi chips that are no longer gluten free

With these four out, more than half the range is no longer gluten free. The change comes from both supplier and ingredients. The gluten free versions were made overseas (Europe) while the new versions are made in Australia and either contain wheat or have a may contain warning.

  • French fries
  • Crinkle cut chips
  • Steak cut chips
  • Potato wedges
This is the old packaging which was GF by ingredient.

It’s important to note that all of the chips that have changed have completely new packaging designs.

Please let the new designs prompt you to re-check the ingredients. That goes for any brand really, as I recently saw with Mr Chen’s beef pho.

Aldi chips that are still gluten free

The following are gluten free, I’ll say for now, but I’m planning to keep checking these to make sure. I’m confident on the sweet potato and crinkle steak fries as they’ve been gluten free for a little while.

  • Straight cut chips, 1kg.
  • Sweet potato chips, 750g.
  • Crinkle steak cut fries, 600g.

Other gluten free items gone from Aldi

You might have also noticed that the Yes You Can baking mixes are no longer available at Aldi. They were in store for about two years so it’s a shame to see them go, but I imagine we’ll see some seasonal kits at Easter.

If you’re missing the Yes You Can kits you can purchase them online from Happy Tummies and Amazon.
