Good Crisp Company Jalapeño

Good Crisp Company Jalapeño

I opened up this packet of Good Crisp Company spicy jalapeño chips right after the US election. I’m also writing this article not long after it (it just takes a while to find a spot in the schedule to publish, that’s why it’s 2025). Anyway, I bought them the day of the election thinking we’d be needing drinks and snacks that night (I was right) and I thought hey, these look kind of American.

Turns out I was wrong on that one!

American vibe but an Aussie product

The packaging design on these crisps looks distinctly American.

So I was really thrown when I turned the packet around and saw G’Day written at the start of a little blurb about the product.

A bit of internet research later and it turns out The Good Crisp Company was started by a young Aussie family around 2014. They launched in the US market in 2017 and by 2018 they were so successful there that they moved overseas to continue growing their business.

It’s an amazing success story but kind of wild that they are so popular in the United States and yet so hard to find here in Australia!

Oh full disclosure, like most ‘canister chips’ as they call them on their website, these are made in Malaysia.

The taste

In terms of texture they are just like I remember Pringles to be.

To be clear though, I never liked Pringles. I’m not sure if I flat out hated them, or I just preferred the far superior texture and flavour of other chips like Thins and Smiths.

But I decided to give this a go because of the jalapeño flavour. Plus it was the day of the US election and my husband and I were feeling a bit anxious so I was buying us some ciders and chips to compensate.

The spice level in these is good, a solidly spicy chip. I stopped eating them and even a minute later I’ve still got a slightly burning / tingling sensation going on.

There’s definitely a lot of flavour on these as well, you can feel it the moment it hits your tongue. That may be attributed to all the salt which is over 800mg per 100g. That’s quite high, similar to Arnott’s Chicken Crimpy which is just over 900mg.

My husband (he eats gluten) just said they taste exactly like Pringles.

The Price

Now, you read a wonderful, positive review on a gluten free product and you are dreading this part. “What’s the price? How many times higher is it than the standard just for being gluten free?”

Well, it’s about 0.6 of the price of Pringles. It’s actually cheaper. Even with me buying them from a small independent grocer ($4.00).

This in part because Pringles are SO OVERPRICED. Pringles are about $4.10 per 100g, these are $2.50 per 100g.

The verdict

Better flavour. Better price. No gluten.

It’s a winner.

Also, there’s not that many jalapeño products on the market which puts these Good Crisp Company chips in a unique position.

It’s an excellent drinking snack too.

Where to buy Good Crisp Company

This is probably the main reason people are visiting this article, where on earth to do you buy them in Australia?!

I’ve seen some of the range in Woolworths Metro stores. Metro stores seem to stock smaller, independent brands like Bask & Co.

Spotted in Pitt Street Metro, Sydney.

I’ve also found these crisps in independent organic and whole foods stores. So your best bet is to check that, if you’ve seen them somewhere else please let me know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
