Gluten free meals delivered to your door, that is what We Feed You is all about. Ready meals are really easy to come by, at the supermarket there are fridges and freezers full of them.

But gluten free ready meals? Not so much.

What is available now may be discontinued a few months down the line, or worse, change ingredients and no longer be coeliac safe.

So it’s easy to see why many people look to meal delivery services that can consistently and reliably deliver safe gluten free food.

Earlier this month We Feed You sent me a selection of five meals to try out and to write a review for two of them.

About We Feed You

We Feed You have been crafting ready meals in Melbourne since 2016. All of their meals are gluten free and endorsed by Coeliac Australia. Yes, I’ve seen the pop up on the website “do you want meals for special diets or great tasting meals?”

It’s a gimmick! Or a trick? Basically, it’s a way to capture the gluten eating market. It’s 2025 but a lot of people still go “Ewww gluten free fried rice” or think a gluten free brownie will somehow be worse (it’s usually richer).

I’ve seen this angle used by other meal services so it must be a marketing tactic that genuinely works.

I will say though, it does make some gluten free folks nervous. So I will reiterate – all of the We Feed You meals are gluten free and endorsed by Coeliac Australia.

Other dietaries are covered quite well too, at a glance it looks like about 2/3 are low FODMAP, 2/3 are lactose free and 1/3 are onion and garlic free.

There’s no filter for dairy free, but looking at a handful of the lactose free meals they don’t contain dairy. They do however have a may contain warning for milk.

Ordering and delivery

Depending on where you live you live you’ll have between one and four delivery days. This gives added flexibility, as you’re not tied to a weekly cut-off.

You can check the delivery times for your suburb by entering your postcode at the top of their delivery page.

What’s really interesting, and possibly different to other providers, is that you can order quite far in advance. I was poking around the order form and saw I could select a delivery date over a month away. Handy if you are coming back from a trip, having surgery, or just want to plan ahead.

There’s a minimum order of five meals and the delivery fee is a flat rate of $15 – pretty reasonable for refrigerated delivery.

My parcel arrived within the delivery time frame and I got a text message about an hour beforehand to let me know it was nearly there.

The meals were boxed in an insulated bag with an ice pack to keep it cool on my doorstep. The delivery box is free of packaging tape making it ready to recycle (or ready for my daughter to play with).

Preparing We Feed You ready meals

All the ready meals by We Feed You arrive frozen so they can go straight into the freezer.

The meals can be heated either in the microwave (usually about 6 mins) or in the oven for 40 – 45.

I was going to say, “I don’t know why, but I always opted for heating ready meals in the oven when I lived in the UK.” Then it hit me – we didn’t own a microwave! 😂

Oven reheating is better for some meals, like chicken pot pies or arancini to get that crispy exterior.

For both the meals I opted to microwave. This was mainly for convenience, a last minute lunch on a busy Saturday. Plus it will better reflect how most people are preparing them.

The taste

I selected lemon and ginger chicken and beef cottage pie. Both heated through fully in the six minutes in the microwave with no cold patches.

Lemon & ginger chicken

This smells healthy 😂😂. I think it’s the kale, it is giving off that cooked brassica aroma. There are a few pieces of chicken breast on top so I decided to be scientific and dig them all out for a weigh in. There’s over 65g of chicken in the portion which stacks up to the nutrition panel advice.

The dish is a mix of brown rice, chicken breast, zucchini and kale. The rice and veg are good, however the chicken is a bit dry but that’s pretty typical of chicken breast that’s been thinly sliced. 

I didn’t realise there was coriander in this until I heated it up (I’m not a fan). Luckily it’s not super strong but I can pick it up in some mouthfuls.

Looking at the box there’s not many ingredients, just thirteen, which is impressive. They’ve used quality ingredients like olive oil and while there is gluten free soy sauce its not so much that the meal is excessively salty. 

The meal is a bit on the bland side but if the alternative is more soy sauce then I’d prefer it this way and have the option to add more myself.

There are a lot of ready meals out there that are unnecessarily salty so I’m definitely cheering for ones lower in salt.

I garnished the dish by adding a bit of fried chilli on top, which I do for most Asian dishes at home. 

Beef cottage pie

The beef cottage pie smelled good the moment I opened it. The base is a rich beef sauce like a bolognese, the carrots are super soft and squishy while the peas are more firm, probably added later to keep them at their best.

It’s topped with potato slices which are soft with a bit of texture and there’s a decent amount of cheese on top. The sauce is a little oily though it’s on par with what you get at restaurants. I probably use less oil than I should in making bolognese, it’s part of what gives that delicious richness.

Overall the flavour is really good and I would eat this again in a heartbeat. The meal is designed to be a ‘lighter’ (lower carb?) so in the future I’d pair it with a side salad or vegetables. Maybe garlic bread if I wanted a more decadent meal. 

The verdict

I didn’t appreciate how healthy the lemon ginger chicken would be! But for what it is designed to be, it’s good. It’s clearly a lean, clean meal. I think if were training intensively at the gym or working to a macros this would be a decent choice.

The cottage pie was lovely, I could see this being an excellent work lunch on those rougher work days. There is something rejuvenating in eating a tasty hot meal on a cold day when nothing is going your way.

Also I’m super happy to see that the packaging is recyclable – even the meal tray which is made from pressed paper board. So the only part going in the general bin is the plastic film, which by the way peels off really easily. 👌

You’d think this is a bit of a trick question, surely it’s only online via their website? But I’ve actually seen We Feed You meals in freezer sections at independent stores.
