  • 1 Wisk or use a fork
  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients

  • 2 Hot cross buns
  • 2 Eggs
  • 50 mL Milk dairy free is also fine
  • 1 tsp Butter for frying

Instructions

  • Slice the buns open and set to one side.
  • In a mixing bowl beat the eggs and slowly add in the milk.
  • Turn your frying pan on to a medium to hot heat and add the butter to melt.
  • Dip the sliced bun into the egg mixture allowing it to sit for ten seconds each side. Note: it will become quite delicate once wet with the mixture.
  • Lift the soaked bun out and place it directly into the hot pan. Repeat with other pieces until your pan is full.
  • Cook the buns on each side for a few minutes or until the egg mixture is cooked. You should get a nice brown colour on each side.
  • Serve your French toast hot cross buns with powdered sugar, fresh fruit and of course maple syrup.

Notes

Gluten-free hot cross buns can be quite fragile so keep this in mind when soaking in the egg mixture.
