Instant Pot Black Rice
Simply the method for making black rice in your Instant Pot.
Prep Time 2 minutes mins
Cook Time 18 minutes mins
Natural release 10 minutes mins
Total Time 30 minutes mins
Course Side Dish
Cuisine Asian
- 1 cup black rice
- 1 cup water
- 1 pinch salt optional
Measure your rice and rinse with water until the water is clear. This is usually about three rinses.
Drain the rice and pour it into the pressure cooker. Add one cup of water and stir the rice to ensure all grains are covered by the water. If you are making more serves maintain a ratio of 1:1 rice to water.
Set your Instant Pot / pressure cooker to cook for 18 minutes.
Allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for 10 minutes. After ten minutes carefully open the vent to release any remaining steam.
Open the pressure cooker and see your perfectly cooked rice, enjoy!
Note this recipe makes two large servings of black rice. If you don't eat a lot of rice this would be closer to three servings.
When I weighed 1 cup of black rice it came up as 196g. The serving suggestion on my black rice was 75g. This means this recipe has 2.6 servings of black rice.
It's important to cook with at least one cup of rice (and water) as the Instant Pot may struggle to reach pressure / avoid burning at lower volumes.
I personally do not use salt when cooking rice but this is entirely optional.
