Cherry Ripe Easter egg – gluten free!
Posted: February 24, 2022 Updated: May 15, 2024
For those of you that haven’t yet read my Aussie gluten-free Easter egg guide Cherry Ripe Easter eggs are gluten free! Regular Cherry Ripe has a may contain for wheat, and also contains gelatine. The Easter egg on the other had, is vegetarian.
The egg retails at $4 which isn’t bad for 110g of chocolate. I’ve seen it on sale at Woolworths for as low as $2.50 and often $3 which is a pretty great deal.
First impression of the egg – it smells exactly as I remember a Cherry Ripe. It’s been about ten years but I’m convinced.
The egg is dark chocolate just like the outside of the original, with desiccated coconut throughout the chocolate so you do get a bit of that texture.
The packet lists cherry coconut jelly pieces – I kind of expected something with a soft gummy texture. squidgy jelly, but it’s more of a crystallised jelly, a bit like the outside of those sugar coated jellies you can get.
In terms of distribution there are loads of jelly pieces (I just ran my finger inside the egg and I can feel the bumps).
The verdict
Overall, it’s a good egg! Tasty, reminds me of a Cherry Ripe and it’s dark chocolate which is my favourite.
The Cherry Ripe Easter egg also comes in the form of a bunny, and in a lovely gift set, these are both gluten free as well.
