Ginger Royale champagne cocktail

Ginger Royale champagne cocktail

The name is a take on the Kir Royale, a champagne cocktail made with French berry liqueur. Possibly the easiest cocktail in the recipe book.

A champagne cocktail is like a little upgrade to your regular glass of fizz. While I keep saying champagne I in fact used sparkling wine.

The first thing you’ll notice is the beautiful ginger smell from the glass. The gentle spice from the ginger warms you up. While the ginger syrup sweetens the champagne, it’s so massively so.

If you’re wondering what the taste is like, it’s a little like a ginger ale rather than a ginger beer. As my husband said, it adds a new depth to the champagne.

A Ginger Royale is perfect with strawberries on the side.

Perfect for any time of year

Ginger Royale is a great drink at any time of year but I think it’s best suited for as a cocktail winter and for Christmas.

If you want to make it a summer drink go for it! The ginger syrup makes the sparkling even more refreshing. Soda water could also be added to make a sparkling ginger shandy mocktail or cocktail.

Ginger Royale ingredients

Ginger Royale is simple, just two ingredients but you’ve got a few options.

Chilled sparkling wine. Champagne, Cava, Prosecco. There are so many fantastic sparkling wines out there so use your favourite. Dry sparkling wine is ideal as the syrup will sweeten the drink.

Ginger syrup. The golden hue of the syrup will give your drink a gentle glow and make it slightly sweeter. Store bought, it’s a great zero waste opportunity after you’ve used all your ginger. Homemade is a great way to use up the extra syrup. Check out my recipe for homemade ginger in syrup.

Just two ingredients homemade ginger in syrup and sparkling wine.

No alcohol, no problem!

Not drinking? No worries! The ginger syrup is alcohol free. A non-alcoholic champagne works perfectly in this recipe. We used zero alcohol sparkling wine and it was gorgeous. We used Edenvale 0% sparkling cuvee that we bought at Coles.
