Hot New Gluten Free Ice Creams for Summer

Hot New Gluten Free Ice Creams for Summer

Posted: October 21, 2023 Updated: October 22, 2023

In the last month I’ve broken the news on not one or two but over five different ice cream brands with new gluten free flavours for summer 2023. This is exciting stuff!

I absolutely adore ice creams, and it’s clear that all you gluten free Aussies and coeliacs do too. My gluten free ice cream and icy poles list, along with my shopping guide to GF ice cream tubs are the most popular pages on my website. Month after month, even through winter!

Without further delay, he’s the scoop on all the new gluten free ice creams I’ve spotted.

Magnum

Yes, you are reading this for real, Magnum is finally offering some gluten free by ingredient ice creams. No may contain 😍.

Released in October, both are manufactured in Europe, which I think is the reason behind the different ingredients and may contain status. Most Magnums are made in Australia and either use barley malt or have a may contain for gluten.

Ego Caramel wasn’t always gluten free, so check this closely. I believe there are both Australian made (may contain gluten) and Poland made (GF by ingredient).

  • Magnum Double Sunlover, coconut and mango. Allergen: Milk. May contain: Egg, soy, tree nuts.
  • Magnum Ego caramel . Allergen: Milk. May contain: Soy, almond.

Get them from Coles, Woolworths. They are likely at independent grocers too – let me know in the comments! Check closely at convenience stores / service stations – I reckon single Ego will contain gluten, let me know if you spot it!

Bonus Magnum! Half the packet is GF by ingredient

I want to add these, even though one flavour isn’t gluten free. Why? Because I think coeliacs and gluten free folk deserve as many ice creams as possible. And let’s face it, for most of us we’re the only gluten free person in the house. So you’ll have someone to share with.

Magnum mini double caramel comes in a packet of six with three of each flavour. I’ve put a line through the second one so you know its full of gluten!

  • Magnum mini caramel almond. Allergens: Almond, milk. May contain: Hazelnut, walnut, soy.
  • Magnum mini gold caramel. Allergens: Gluten, milk, wheat. May contain: Almond, cashew, egg, soy.

Only caramel almond is GF, you’ll have to give away the other flavour.

Haagen Dasz

These were such an unexpected surprise. Whenever I go grocery shopping I go to the freezer and with a hopeful heart I pick up every new product to see if it’s gluten free. It takes a lot of time but I find such gems!

You get four for the price of two here, two different flavours in each pack!

  • Haagen-Dazs Mini Choc Almond & Vanilla Caramel Almond. Allergens: Milk, Egg, Soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
  • Haagen-Dazs Mini Macadamia Nut & Salted Caramel. Allergens: Milk, Macadamia, Egg, Soy. May contain: Peanut, other tree nuts.

Netflix

Uhh, yes I did write that correctly. Netflix in collaboration with Coles supermarkets released a range of frozen foods inspired by Netflix series. The ice cream below harks back to ice cream store Scoops Ahoy from Stranger Things. Unfortunately just one flavour is gluten free, but it sounds nice!

I’m guessing this is only here for the summer, so be quick!

Allergen: Milk. May contain: Egg, peanut, almond, macadamia, hazelnut and soy.

Sara Lee

You might have heard in October Sara Lee Australia announced it was going into voluntary administration. Yet, just days before they released a new ice cream flavour! Bizarre, but the plan is to sell of parts of the business and keep it running. Let’s hope it is the case as one of Sara Lee’s gluten free ice cream flavours is my favourite of all time.

The new flavour is hokey pokey! I’m not sure what the base flavour is but it’s got a honey ripple and pieces of crunchy butterscotch throughout.

Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, almond, macadamia, hazelnut, cashew, pistachio, walnut and pecan.

Get it from Coles. It may also be at Woolworths, but it’s currently listed out of stock.

I forgot to add this initially, Sara Lee actually has two new ice creams with this Bailey’s tub. Oddly, it’s got a lot of coffee ingredients. It makes sense, coffee and Bailey’s is a great combination, but my husband hates coffee so it might not end up in our shopping basket. According to articles online, it’s also alcohol free – which explains why Bailey’s isn’t in the ingredients 🤔.

Allergens: Milk. May contain: Soy, peanut, almond, macadamia, hazelnut, cashew, pistachio, walnut and pecan.

Note: The Sara Lee website says it contains egg, but I have a photo of the ingredients and it doesn’t. It’s possibly a mistake on their website. Best to check in store if you have an egg allergy.

Little Moons Mochi

Who could have predicted that Little Moons Mochi would double their range of flavours in one go?!

For the uninitated a mochi is a Japanese sweet made of sticky rice dough, filled with various flavours like red bean or sesame. Ice cream mochi takes it to another level, making it the perfect frozen treat.

  • Summer Raspberry. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
  • Himalayan Salted Caramel. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Egg, peanut, tree nuts.
  • Iced Latte Coffee. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
  • Strawberries & Cream. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
  • Madagascan Vanilla. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.

Twisted

The primary selling point of Twisted is that their products are low sugar / no added sugar. But happily many of their ice creams are also gluten free! October 2023 saw a huge range of new items from them. Some of which featured in my first ever Instagram reel!

  • Vanilla Latte Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Nuts.
  • Rich Chocolate Allergens: Milk. May contain: Nuts.
  • Vanilla Bean dipped. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Nuts.
  • Hazelnut dipped. Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Nuts.

Okay I do have a problem with Hazelnut dipped. It says nut free on the box, yet they call it hazelnut, when they could say hazelnot. Then, on the website it says produced in a facility that handles nuts. So it’s not nut free then is it! I know most of us are here for gluten free ice creams but I take my allergen listings seriously.

There’s also a range called Super Pops – I feel like they are for kids? Maybe it’s the monsters on the packaging.

  • Banana Supa Pops. Allergens: Milk. May contain: Nuts.
  • Chocolate milkshake Supa Pops. Allergens: Milk. May contain: Nuts.
  • Cookie dough Supa Pops. Allergens: Milk. May contain: Nuts.

Get them from Woolworths.
