Senza Pepperoni Pizza

Senza Pepperoni Pizza

Newly released and already in my freezer, today I have a review of the Senza pepperoni pizza. I am sitting here thinking to myself, did we ever have a time when there were two GF pizzas in the supermarket freezer?

I guess it depends where you shop. At Coles and Woolworths there’s just the one international pizza brand available. If you went to an independent or Costco you could get Senza’s original margherita pizza.

But now, at Woolworths you’ve got options since Senza’s pepperoni pizza hit the shelves in May 2024.

This is post sponsored by Senza. As you no doubt know, I’m candid in my posts so I’m not going to tell you something is great if it’s not. If you like, you can read more about how Kati Keksi is funded, and how you can support my work.

The new pizza has been out for about two weeks now. It’s been tricky to find at some stores as Woolworths is conducting a massive reshuffle of it’s freezer displays. At my local though it’s on the lower shelves in the gluten free freezer section.

About Senza Wellness Foods

Senza are an Australian company who have been making exclusively gluten free products since 2019.

Based in Melbourne they produce focaccia, garlic bread and of course pizza. They also sell several flour mixes including ones for gnocchi and pasta.

If you’ve been to a gluten free expo in recent years you’ve probably fought your way through the crowds to get a sample, spun the prize wheel or posed with the “no gluten way” sign (I think there’s a photo of me, Sydney 2022, with that 😅).

Speaking of expos, 2025 is the first year that Senza will attend the Perth expo!

Preparing the Senza pepperoni pizza

The back of the packet tells me I can heat the pizza straight from frozen in a 220°C oven or 200°C fan forced.

For pizza I tend to use the element setting (the two lines, top and bottom) along with the fan on my oven, set at 200°C. I find having the elements on helps to achieve a crispy base and evenly browns the cheese.

I always pre-heat my baking tray, not sure if it makes a difference but I like the little sizzle when the pizza goes on.

The suggested cooking time was 10 – 12 minutes, personally I didn’t find this enough with my settings so it was in there for 15 minutes.

After the fifteen minutes I had a pizza with melted cheese just starting to brown, crispy pepperoni and a nicely browned base.

The taste

I decided to be thorough and picked off a piece of pepperoni to try on it’s own. It’s about what you’d expect for a mild pepperoni (it’s not spicy), there’s little pieces of pepper and it’s got that salty cured taste.

The base, as I said, is nicely browned so it’s got a good exterior. The dough is soft and chewy, it’s easy to eat. You can eat the crust too – despite my long cooking time the crust is not crazy hard or breaking my teeth.

My husband really liked it too (he eats wheat outside the home), he said the dough was nice and airy and he appreciated the oregano on top.

Our toddler liked it too! She happily ate two little cheesy slices before her nap.

The upgrade

I actually didn’t upgrade my pizza! I know I do for almost every product I review, but for an accurate convenience food review you have to try it straight up.

I’ve already seen a few people post about this pizza so I’ll share what they did. One added sliced black olives, another put on a few pieces of mushroom and extra cheese. Another person added hot honey – I have never tried hot honey but I am going to now.

I think it’s a given to add a bit extra to a pizza, definitely a bit of chilli or Tabasco after cooking.

The verdict

It’s a really good pizza! I think how people feel about this will come down to two things, if you prefer a thicker crust over a thinner one and how you cook it.

I’d happily buy this again for a quick and easy pizza night. Generally I buy plain bases to prepare myself at home, but a ready made pizza is my go-to on holidays / work trips.

I’ve bought a ready made frozen pizza in just about every country / city I’ve travelled to, so I know I’ll do it again. 😁

It’s also genuinely nice to have another gluten free convenience / junk food option. I hope the Senza pepperoni pizza is successful and brings about more topping options either at Woolies or other stores.
