Gluten free Advent Calendars 2024

It’s the middle of October but I feel as though I’m already late in writing about gluten free advent calendars for 2024. As much as I love refreshing an old post, sometimes you need to write a whole new one.

While most of the advent calendars from my 2022 guide (updated and refreshed for 2023) are still GF a few have changed. So I think it’s safest if I keep you all on this new post.

Anthon Berg

I saw an IG buddy with one of theses a few years ago and I was SO envious. However, since seeing the price this year I am not. Currently the only place I’ve seen it for sale (The Chocolate Box) is asking for 60 bucks?! Tell them they are dreaming.

There’s a listing for it at Dan Murphy’s but it’s currently out of stock. Let me know if you see it somewhere cheaper and I’ll share it with everyone via FB.

Baci

I am doing this list alphabetically but I think an advent calendar that appeals to the adults is appropriate. Baci (a properly gluten free product) have an advent calendar this year and it’s been spotted in Australia! I saw it at LaManna Essendon (Victoria).

Naturally (like most things at this premium grocer) it is expensive at $35. But can you put a price on delightful Italian chocolates? Up to you! Update: Another Melbourne grocer has them for $25, much more reasonable!

It does weigh in at 300g, so it’s one of the heaviest. I wonder if I should do a price per 100g on every calendar? 😅

Bluey

Straight from an adult’s calendar and onto a kids one! This gets it’s own heading and listing because I suspect it may be the only character advent calendar this year that is gluten free.

This calendar is made by Kinnerton in the UK, which is different to the Park Avenue ones made in Germany (see my update about those further down).

This brand also lists “nut safe” on the front, but doesn’t have anything on the back… In English! However in Finnish (which I can read somewhat), it says explicitly it does not contain nuts or peanuts and is made in a facility where nuts and peanuts are not processed. Win!

Cadbury Christmas Advent Calendar

Cadbury brings coeliacs the goods at the holidays, Easter and Christmas are your best chance to get your milk chocolate fix without may contains for wheat. This year the price is up by one dollar to $8.

Candy Advent Calendar

I thought I’d finished this guide, but I was out at a shopping centre and spotted this advent calendar full of lollies near the registers at Kmart. Flipped it over and yep, gluten free!

Like most lollies this does contain gelatine (from beef) so it’s not vegetarian. It also lists glucose syrup from corn, glucose syrup from wheat is absolutely safe for coeliacs but I know I also have some wheat allergy readers.

At $9 for over 300g it may be one of the best value on the list.

Chupa Chups and Mentos

This year there’s a new Aussie themed Christmas design. I really like the summery scenes they’ve had over the years.

The calendar has a mix of Chupa Chups and Mentos lollies – all of which are gluten free and coeliac safe. *While there’s the allergen of dairy, it’s limited to the dairy-containing Chupa Chups flavours.

So if you’re DF or your kid is, you can easily identify them and substitute them out.

Like the Cadbury advent calendar the price is up by one dollar this year, $10 at Woolworths.

Free From Family Co

Haven’t heard of Free From Family Co? FFFC are the manufacturer run by Happy Tummies, the allergy-aware online store which I am an ambassador!

FFFC have long been making gluten free, dairy free, nut free, vegan chocolate treats. This is the first year they’ve released advent calendars. The calendars are available in dark, milk and white chocolate.

At $17.95 the price is more expensive than Nomo, but actually has more chocolate by weight. Plus, GF/DF white choc is … basically impossible to find. 😅

Haigh’s

As all Aussie coeliacs know, Haigh’s has fabulous when it comes to gluten free chocolate. Thankfully their luxury advent calendar is not gluten free, so we can all save ourselves from spending $1,290.

This year the small packet of refills have a may contain for wheat and gluten – so it’s out too. I don’t normally include non-GF products here, but since so many people would expect it to be gluten free I thought I’ll leave it as information.

Heidel

If you prefer your chocolate to be European, then you can grab the German-made Heidel advent calendars which are gluten free by ingredient. I haven’t seen these in person this year, but I did last year and they are GF without may contain. I also checked the Heidel website, so I am confident in this.

Kinder Surprise

It’s a brand new advent calendar! Last year’s one had little bon bons, but this year there’s four different treats inside. Including the cutest little penguins ever!

I’m yet to see these in store but they are online at Woolworths. age if I get to see them in store.

Moo Free

It has arrived! Moo Free products landed in Australia mid-November, you’ll find the full range at Happy Tummies.

Why am I shouting? A bit of background. There’s one distributor bringing in Moo Free to Australia. Last year the products were so delayed from the UK that they cancelled the order and everyone missed out.

So it’s certainly worth cheering that they made it here for 2024.

Moo Free chocolates are allergen free, and also make dairy free white chocolate products – which is rather rare.

NOMO

This year’s Nomo is a bit different, while last year was a mix of ‘milk’ choc and sea salt caramel this year it’s all the same. It’s also a bit lighter at 80g. As well as being gluten free they are dairy free, vegan, and egg and nut free.

Park Avenue

This is only here for quick note to say Park Avenue advent calendars are not gluten free as per previous years. These are the Barbie, Minions and other characters you’d typically see. This year they have a may contain warning for gluten, wheat.

Plamil So Free

Okay, if you’ve had Plamil So Free chocolate in the past just read carefully for a moment. They are made in the UK where uncontaminated oats are a regular part of the coeliac / gluten free diet.

As such, they have adapted some of their chocolates to be made with uncontaminated oats. The white chocolate calendar does not use oats so it’s still very much suitable.

I’ll just list the white chocolate on the page so as not to let anyone down / mislead.

Trolli

Just like last year we’ve got a Trolli advent calendar to keep those of us with a lolly addiction happy. The Trolli calendar is one of the most affordable, around the $4 mark.

Warheads

Isn’t it amazing that there’s almost an equal amount of chocolate and lolly themed advent calendars that are gluten free? Not everyone enjoys chocolate so it’s cool that there are more options available.

The Warhead calendar is also vegetarian as there is no gelatine in the recipe despite it having chewy lollies inside.

Tea Advent Calendars

I was going to do separate listings for these but by the time I get to the end of a shopping guide I’m pretty exhausted. These take a few weeks to make, a couple of hours each nice researching and writing.

So, there’s a few options, the main brand that’s easiest to get in Australia is the English Tea Shop. They’ve got a few sizes too, and include a mix of caffeinated and caffeine free blends. Pukka also make a tea calendar which you can buy from Amazon.

If you’re wondering why the T2 calendar isn’t on here it’s because one flavour in the set has a may contain for gluten so I’ve left it off.
