Sara Lee ice cream tubs that are gluten free
Posted: January 9, 2023 Updated: March 29, 2024
Did you know that Sara Lee rocky road ice cream is now gluten free? This has to be my number one ice cream from my early 20s. No, not my childhood, my 20s when I could go out and buy a tub of ice cream whenever I wanted.
While researching this I was quite surprised to see quite a few of the Sara Lee ice creams are also egg free.

Amazingly this one does not contain egg – which can be quite rare in some ice cream brands.

Sara Lee rocky road ice cream became gluten free some time in late 2022, I came across the news on a Facebook page. Unfortunately at last check supermarket websites like Woolworths haven’t updated the ingredients so it still shows wheat three times in the list.
Be sure to check closely, I’ve included a list of the old ingredients so you know what to look out for. Honestly, why did they have wheat in their chocolate before? Gross!
This flavour is also egg free.
Allergens: Milk, peanut, soy. May contain: Tree nuts.
Creamy French Vanilla
A delightfully creamy French vanilla ice cream. The perfect partner to a delicious dessert like a gluten free apple pie.
Allergens: Milk, egg. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
Irresistible Hokey Pokey
Honey ripples and pieces of butterscotch brittle, sounds like a sugar overload ideally suited to my husband. This is a newer flavour replacing dulce de leche and mango passionfruit.
Allergens: Milk, soy. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
Baileys Original
I was quite excited to see a Baileys inspired ice cream on the shelves and even more so when I realised it was gluten free by ingredient. The turn off for me is that it has a coffee ripple going through it. Obviously Baileys and coffee are a classic combination but coffee ice cream isn’t something I’m into.
I’m not sure if this will be limited edition, it came out just before summer in 2023 with a bunch of new release ice creams.
Allergens: Milk. May contain: Peanut, tree nuts.
Note: the Sara Lee website lists egg in the ingredients but I’ve seen this tub in person and it doesn’t have egg. Just double check before buying if you have an egg allergy.
Which flavour will you go for first? I only lasted a week knowing the rocky road was gluten free before going out and buying a tub (handily it was on special at Woolies). That tub only lasted two weeks… and my husband barely ate any of it!
It really is that good, you can just keep going. I was eating out of the tub mind you – no one to share with!
